Matshidiso Moeti, from Botswana, is the first woman WHO Regional Director for Africa. She has more than 35 years of national and international experience in public health and had previously served in senior positions in Botswana’s Ministry of Health, UNICEF, UNAIDS and WHO. At the height of the HIV/AIDS epidemic, she led WHO's ‘3 by 5’ initiative to scale up access to treatment in the Region
